Alcantara and Taormina

Our excursion will begin with a walk through nature, history and traditions, to discover the most beautiful places of the Alcantara river: the ruins of the Francavilla castle, the archaeological excavations, the saje and the Gurne, expanses of water surrounded by vegetation.

Alcantara River - Mount Etna - Taormina

Our excursion will begin with a walk through nature, history and traditions, to discover the most beautiful places of the Alcantara river: the ruins of the Francavilla castle, the archaeological excavations, the saje and the Gurne, expanses of water surrounded by vegetation. After about 30 Km we will reach Taormina, but first we will stop at the wonderful “Isola Bella”, a Wildlife Reserve considered the “pearl of the Ionian” for its natural beauty, connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand. From here it is possible to admire the bay, and the promontories of Capo S. Andrea, that hosts the renowned Grotta Azzurra (The Blue Cave), and of Capo Taormina. It is possible to bathe in these marvellous crystal clear waters. Lunchtime everyone is free. The afternoon will be dedicated for visiting the picturesque town of Taormina. Along the main road of this town, Corso Umberto, with the Messina Gate below and the Catania Gate on the mountain side, we will admire the most important monuments: Palazzo Corvaja (The Corvaja Palace, Museum of Arts and Folk Traditions, entrance fee not included), the Teatro Antico (The Old Theatre, entrance fee not included), Piazza IX Aprile, the Torre dell’orologio (The Clock Tower), the Cattedrale Fortezza (The Fortress Cathedral), the Badia Vecchia (The Old Abbey), and the Palazzo Duca di Santo Stefano (The Duke of Saint Stephen Palace), and much more. It will also be possible to go shopping in the exclusive shops among the shops selling handicrafts. We will return to the hotel around 7pm.

Service: Guided Tour with multilingual assistant. Pick-up at your hotel (or B&B) or at one of the gathering points and return (for a complete list of the places covered by this service see Details and info). The price does not include the entrance fees to the Museum of Art and Folk Traditions (the price is about € 2.60) and to Teatro Antico (the price is about € 6.00).
Details and information: The tour will take place on Fridays, from 08:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m.. The hotels covered by the pick-up service, round trip, are those in: city of Catania, Misterbianco, Mascalucia, Gravina di Catania, S.Giovanni la Punta, Tremestieri Etneo, Aci Castello, Aci Trezza, Pedara, San Gregorio di Catania, Trecastagni, Sant’Agata li Battiati, Zafferana Etnea, Santa Venerina, Viagrande, Valverde, Nicolosi, Linguaglossa. The gathering places are: Stazione Centrale (central station) of Catania and the central square of Nicolosi (piazza Vittorio Emanuele). When purchasing please write in the space provided the name and address of the hotel where you are staying or the name of the gathering point where you would like to be picked up. The pick-up will start before 08:00 a.m. You will be informed by telephone of the approximate pick-up time. We suggest you provide a valid phone number, else we will only be able to inform you by email. The pick-up and return times could vary slightly because of external factors. We urge you to be as punctual as possible, because the shuttle bus will not wait for more than 15 minutes compared to the indicated time. The service does not include all that is not specifically indicated under “Service”.

Accomplishments and additional options: Withdrawal is allowed up to 24 hours before pick-up time. The tour may be modified and/or cancelled by the organizer, whose judgement is unquestionable, due to circumstances beyond our control such as: adverse meteorological conditions; changes in road conditions; landslides; inundation of the whole or part of the paths where the excursion takes place; liquidated not suitable health conditions of one or more participants. In all the cases described above the organizer will not refund the Clients for the modification of the whole or part of the service. The Clients will be able to agree with the organizer on a new date without extra costs compared to the price of the tour.
