The day begins with a meeting with the staff and the rest of the group at the prearranged meeting point.
We head towards Catania to begin the visit to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe (3,345 m).
Upon arrival, a pleasant walk will take you to the Silvestri Craters, two pyroclastic cones formed north of Nicolosi at about 1,900 meters above sea level. Today they are among the most famous cones on the volcano, located next to one of the most visited tourist areas on Mount Etna – the Rifugio Sapienza square and the Etna Cable Car. The surrounding landscape will leave you speechless!
If you'd like to continue the ascent, you can do so with two optional add-ons (not included in the booking):
• Up to 2,500 meters: take the Etna Cable Car (approx. €30 per person, to be paid on-site) to 2,500 meters ("Montagnola"). Once there, you can walk around, hike, or relax at the bar.
• From 2,500 to 2,920 meters: from the Montagnola, you can go up to 2,800 meters with special UNI-MOG 4x4 buses, accompanied by an official Etna guide (approx. €66 per person, to be paid on-site, including cable car + UNI-MOG ride). Trekking continues to 2,920 meters.The tour then continues to Taormina, a charming town on the slopes of Mount Tauro (204 m). Its lovely alleys and romantic corners make it a gem of eastern Sicily.
You will have free time to visit the famous Greek Theatre (entrance ticket not included), the second largest in Sicily after the one in Syracuse. From here, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Gulf of Taormina and Giardini Naxos. The theatre is a true panoramic stage offering a sweeping view of Mount Etna, the Plain of Catania, the Ionian coast, and even the Calabrian mountains.
