If you wish to explore the wilder slope of Mt Etna and enjoy the highest active volcano in Europe in all its glory, though in total safety following an expert nature guide, this is the Mt Etna tour for you!
A long hike discovering the little known flank of Etna, through various woodlands, pinewoods and vast lava fields. From Nicolosi, climbing up towards C.da Milia by minibus, amid fruit orchards, bearing mostly apples and pears. Once past the mighty Monte Intraleo, we'll go to the carpark at Piano Fiera (1500m a.s.l.). Hiking through pine-woods which cover the ancient Monte Nespole craters, to then go along the 1974 lava fields originating from Monti de Fiore (1730m a.s.l.).
The route continues through mixed forests, ancient craters, and old lava flows until reaching the Altomontana track and the Monte Palestra Refuge at an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level, from which a path crossing the extensive pine forests of the Adrano Woods will lead you back to Piano Fiera, the starting point of the excursion.
