Read moreVisiting Catania without tasting its amazing street food – available at all hours, from dawn to late at night – means missing out on a fundamental part of the city’s identity. Street food in Catania is a real tradition, made of bold flavors, genuine ingredients, and recipes passed down through generations.
Get ready for a guided walking tour through the heart of the historic center, among baroque alleyways, lively markets, and squares rich in history, where you’ll taste some of the most iconic specialties of Catanese cuisine.
The meeting point with the guide is at our office, located in Via Crociferi, one of the most charming streets of Sicilian Baroque. From there, your immersion into local aromas and flavors will begin.
The first stop is the famous Pescheria – the historic fish market, open only in the morning – where you’ll sample Sicilian cured meats, cheeses, and, your choice of either a cone of freshly fried fish or traditional horse meatballs. The tour continues to Piazza Duomo and Piazza Università, two of the city’s symbolic locations, before a refreshing stop to enjoy a typical local drink, Seltz, freshly made at one of the classic Catanese kiosks.
You’ll then walk through the “La Fiera” market to reach the most iconic street food spots in Catania, where you’ll taste two unmissable specialties: cipollina, a fragrant pastry filled with onion, tomato, ham, and mozzarella, and the famous arancino, crispy on the outside and soft inside.
The tour continues along Via Etnea, past Villa Bellini and the Roman Amphitheatre of Piazza Stesicoro, until the final stop: dessert. Depending on the season, you can choose between a ricotta cannolo, a Sicilian cassata, or an artisan granita.
You’ll also receive a small guide with a list of the specialties tasted and the route taken, so you can relive your Catania street food experience at home.
For those who choose the evening tour, some stops vary depending on market opening hours: the Pescheria and the market will be replaced by a visit to the Monastery of the Benedictines and a wine break along the route.
Extras available at purchase: You can add the drinks package, which includes water, soft drinks, and/or one alcoholic beverage.
