If you love nature, you cannot miss an excursion on Mount Etna up to an altitude of 2000 meters, exploring the southern and northeastern slopes of the highest active volcano in Europe.
This is a dynamic tour that tells the volcanic history and natural features of Etna. Starting from Nicolosi, known as the “gateway to Etna,” you will travel along the road leading to Etna South Station at about 1995 meters above sea level. Along the way, you will pass the Monti Rossi and the eruptive fracture responsible for the great 1669 eruption that reached the city of Catania. The route continues through landscapes shaped by the 2001 lava flow and the striking lava fields of 1983, offering breathtaking views.
By minibus, you will reach Etna South tourist station, often affected by recent eruptions. Here begins the first hike along the 1892 eruptive fracture that formed the Silvestri Craters at around 2000 meters.
On the way down to Zafferana Etnea, there will be a stop at the Cassone Cave, a perfect example of a lava tunnel. The journey continues through Milo to the village of Fornazzo, then up along the Mareneve road to Piano Provenzana on Etna’s northern side.Along the way, you will observe different types of forests that vary with altitude, including the unique Etna birch forest. The second hike starts here, along the 1865 eruptive fracture of the Sartorius Mountains, offering stunning panoramic views of the eastern slope.
Before returning, there will be a visit to the 2002 lava flow, one of the most recent eruptions affecting the northern side of Etna.
Complimentary Wine and food tasting at a winery.
